Le Reve

The Sandman himself, Franco Dragone, former creative influence for Cirque du Soleil, has created a portal into the world of dreams. This unparalleled, stand alone show has been nestled quietly in both the spectacular Wynn Resort and the unbridled subconscious of all.
Constantly reinventing itself, Le Reve- A Small Collection of Imperfect Dreams, is a show that celebrates to no end the love, hate, joy, and pain that comes with the magical and essential tool all humans share- The Dream. Two instructions before viewing the show: #1 Get there early. Cirque du Soleil spirit
has trickled down into Le Reve fueling the “show before the show.” Clowns in the
form of a group of men in white suits and red swim caps make the audience their personal
playground for humility. Anything from targeting bald men to stealing dates can happen as
long as it involves making light of the human condition in all it’s imperfection. #2 Leave
imagination boundaries at the door. It’s time to open up to all the possibilities a dream
may propose.

It doesn’t take long to realize he Le Reve stage is one of the most technically advanced pieces of entertainment equipment that may exist. It’s multidimensional levels that constantly change shape, rise from and fall into the depths of an element that has given the show it’s glorious identity…Water. Water immersing, complimenting, seizing everything. Yet take care not to let the senses get lazy and focus solely on the sparkling abyss in the center of the showroom, for anything can turn up in a dream. The walls can come to life and fantasy’s creatures can dribble in from every…look around…corner…and crevice.
Time to sleeeeeeeep. A lovely girl in a red dress, the dreamer, lies in a daze upon her bed which floats atop crystal blue water. Her guide through the subconscious, a dream master of sorts of whom resembles a dark wizard, cues the magic and madness to begin. Angels, devils, and characters from the deepest corners of a wild mind flood the stage by air, water, and land. Heart pounding acrobatics, divine balancing acts, and red heeled (along with one pair of sea monster legs) synchronized swimmers take no time to dance to the dreamer’s fancy, all of which are under the mercy of the some very unconventional circumstances…they’re all soaking wet. Sounds impossible yes, but there are no limits in this journey through dreams.
Franco Dragone stays true to the unpredictable nature of the subconscious world (and real world for that matter) with performances that begin in a very light-hearted state yet end in utter turmoil. For instance, the thougtful dreamer may be at one point flying through the air with angelic white figures in a dynamic partner aerial act and the next moment be tossed amongst the horrors of fear and despair. Nets full of lifeless bodies raise from the water as storms, chaos, terror, and 80 foot falls into the cold eternal water replace the once tranquil sleep sancturary. Just as there is the beautiful dream, exists the dark nightmare.
But fear not, the mood will be lightened in true Dragone/Cirque fashion with a little more clowning and swim caps between acts. From a strip tease gone wrong to reviving a fake dove with CPR, these fellows play a detrimental role of reminding everyone during the happiest or grimmest of times that the world’s too mysterious; don’t take it serious.
Just as the trip through Never Never Land is unpredictable, it may also hold representative secrets. Love, Lust, and Angst in relationships are brought forth by several couples in bold primitive dress, going from suspended acrobatics so fluid and sexy it’s hard to tell where one ends and the other begins, to violent bouts throwing themselves across the stage in outrageous fits of gymnastics. Other gifts in this world such as Strength and Balance are held by two statuesque men in a hand balancing routine that proves gravity is of no consequence. Their slow, deliberate movement into each ridiculously difficult pose makes them a veritable soaking wet yin yang. There’s even Control and Trust displayed by three gorgeous females manipulating and weaving themselves
in and out of a hanging giant metal sphere. Each of their moves determines the others’ fate under the most daring and dangerous conditions.
Still there’s always the wild card that dreams can throw in, nonsensical and representative of nothing but the truth that there aren’t always answers for everything; things may be imperfect and incompl…Such as tables and chairs spinning in the air with ambitious diners upon them (try eating in that breakfast nook). And it’s almost as though this peculiar vision provoked the breech of the borders back to reality. With her, the dreamer took no definitive answers to anything, no perfect truths except one: All is possible. The red dressed beauty said farewell to her creatures of the cerebral beyond and lied once again upon her floating bed.

Sophie, an average twenty-year old bride to be, sits under the moon and sings of her dream. Next to the crystal blue Mediterranean, her wedding day anxieties, life’s ideals, along with her desire to discover who her real father is are belted across the showroom in powerful song. When her two friends stumble into the scene, drunk with pre-marital madness, it becomes obvious- this show is no circus act; here’s a story to which everyone can relate.
Cirque du Soleil has always enlightened the spirit with brilliant expeditions celebrating life, beauty, and humanity. It is then only natural that the sultry free-flowing-love show “Zumanity” be born. After all, what is one of humanity’s undoubtedly favorite and essential functions?…sex of course.
An aerial hoop act by the ultimate schoolgirl fantasy, though hot, hot, hot to no end, by that time provoked the question, “Hey, where’s the beef?” Where in which Alex rises, playing hide and seek with his costume and anatomy alike, revealing a body of such impeccable beauty one would assume he was definitely from another planet. Following Alex’s heat is an intimate hand balancing performance between a male and female that is a powerful display of oneness and trust in a relationship. Then, flying solo in his own world of unconventional physicality, a contortionist brings that good ol’ nature-defying factor back to showmanship striking flexibility poses from which one absolutely can’t look away.

“A New Day…” was created by Franco Dragone of “Cirque du Soleil” fame and his touches are evident in every aspect of the show. The unique and innovative choreography and costume design for the dancers as well as the huge video screen behind the stage create a visually exciting backdrop for Celine, allowing each song to transport you to a different time and place. The theater feels far more intimate during the performance than it first appears and with a specially built stage that is higher in the back than in the front to allow better viewing, I don’t think there is a bad seat in the house.
What’s a night on the town in Las Vegas without seeing a show? Folies Bergere at the Tropicana provides a fun, entertaining diversion from gambling while giving you the feel of a classic, Vegas evening of days past. The opening sequences feature the dancers in traditional showgirl apparel with large feathered headresses and sequined costumes in an exciting display of lights, music and dance. From the lighted staircase to the ladies being lowered from the ceiling on ornamental swings, the props were as amazing as the dancing. From there Folies Bergere transports the audience on a retrospective of song and dance through the years. Starting with belles of the ball in the 1850’s dressed in period ballgowns and moving on to a beautiful ballet duo dancing in the winter forest. Through the 1920’s we are enthralled with the flappers and vamps which soon moved on to the Hollywood Glamour of the 1930’s. Rock and Roll hits the show in the 1960’s along with a vintage Chevy rolling across the stage.
Why are the people in the front row wearing plastic covering over their clothes? Why is there an oversized DNA strand on stage? What are those brass figures in each corner of the showroom? These peculiar embellishments aren’t often found in top of the line Vegas entertainment so curiosity is peaked by even the most sedated audience members.
