Cirque du Soleil has done it again. The beloved acrobatic troupe?s latest offering, Zarkana, is fresh from a worldwide tour, having awed audiences from Spain to Moscow with its enchanting mix of spectacle and whimsy. And now, this sensory feast has a permanent home at the Aria Resort in Vegas, where fans have the chance to see it twice nightly, five nights a week.
In the best Cirque tradition, Zarkana is a window into a magical, whimsical world full of other worldly characters and spectacular visual effects. Jugglers, dancers and gymnasts amaze and enthrall, as trapeze artists and acrobats soar high into the air, performing astounding acts of athleticism. Meanwhile, mischievous clowns inject subversive humor in between acts. Incredible costumes, stirring live music and comically bizarre creatures all add to the mix ? there?s something for everyone in this family-friendly, all-ages extravaganza!
The best Cirque shows excel at blurring the line between fantasy and reality ? and in this respect, Zarkana does not disappoint. One of the most striking features of this show is the stage, which is lined with giant LED screens featuring visuals that complement each act. The effect is dizzying ? at times it?s hard to tell where the live performers end, and the visuals begin?all of which adds to the electrifying air of over-the-top magic.
The 1700-seat theater is airy and expansive, with soaring ceilings and spacious, comfortable seating. Every seat in the house affords an excellent view of the stage ? even the balcony. As with many Cirque shows, you?ll want to arrive early, as several characters from the cast come out into the audience to interact with the crowd before the performance begins- similar to how “O” begins. Two monkish creatures on either side of the theater play evocative, haunting music on giant pipe organs, setting the mood and adding an air of mystery. It?s great fun!
One of the biggest crowd-pleasing highlights of the show is surprisingly low-key ? while normally known for its feats of spectacular athleticism, Cirque breaks with tradition here to feature a sand artist as one of the acts. You might not think it would be very exciting to see someone drawing pictures on a light box covered in sand?but prepare to be amazed. This act is nothing short of jaw-dropping.
If you are a fan of Cirque, you will not be disappointed in Zarkana. And if you?ve never seen a Cirque show, Zarkana is the perfect introduction to this magical, whimsical world. Just be advised?.Cirque is highly habit-forming! And with all the other Cirque shows in Vegas? you may find yourself addicted. Welcome to the club!
